A brief, but intriguing, history.
It was the late 1980s. Big hair and metal bands were all the rage. And in a Westchester, NY, home, Susan Dunkelman began her one-woman event planning business.
From the start, things were busy and going well. But, in the story of every successful business is the proverbial turning point-a moment when the enterprise is suddenly challenged and, as a result, reaches new heights.
For The Charles Group, that defining moment came from the New York State Department of Health’s AIDS Institute. The institute was searching for a firm to handle a series of AIDS seminars in communities across the state. The Charles Group was chosen from over 100 competitors.
Needless to say, the seminars were a success. And word spread.
More state agencies followed, then corporate clients. As business continued to boom, Susan was joined by Carol Davis-Grossman. Under their combined leadership, The Charles Group quickly became an established force in the meetings and events business. Clients loved the company’s entrepreneurial drive, talent and organization. And they still do.
Today, The Charles Group is based in Fairfield, NJ, with clients ranging from public relations firms to pharmaceuticals. A variety of Fortune 500 companies grace The Charles Group’s client list.
They’ve come a long way from a home business in the burbs. But the foundations of the business-creativity, resourcefulness, and responsiveness-have only strengthened with time.
